Statement to our international community: The situation in Southern Chile
To our friends, clients, and followers around the world who look to Chile as a nature destination, we believe it is important to inform you about the critical situation facing the south-central zone of our country. Chile is currently facing a major emergency due to wildfires that have severely affected the Biobío and Ñuble regions.
We want to share the reality of what is happening, based on the most recent official reports delivered by the authorities.
A Human Tragedy
Unfortunately, this is not just an ecological disaster; it is a humanitarian tragedy. The Government has confirmed that the fire has claimed the lives of at least 20 people. Furthermore, the impact on local communities is devastating: more than 530 homes are reported destroyed, leaving hundreds of families homeless.
The magnitude of the emergency is significant, with more than 34,000 hectares affected by fire nationwide, with the greatest destruction concentrated in the Biobío region. Currently, there are dozens of active fire hotspots keeping emergency teams on high alert and fighting the flames relentlessly.
Solidarity from the Mountains
Although our expeditions operate mainly in the north (Atacama) and the central zone (Santiago), as a Chilean company, it pains us deeply to see our compatriots and our territory suffering.
We want to express our solidarity with the victims’ families and with those who have lost a lifetime of effort. Likewise, we extend our respect to the firefighters, brigade members, and health personnel who are working in the affected zones under extreme conditions to protect the population.
How to help from abroad or Chile?
We know that the mountaineering community is naturally supportive. If you wish to help, the most effective aid at this time is through monetary donations to the official institutions managing the crisis on the ground:
We appreciate your concern for our country and its people during these difficult times.
