El Plomo & Leonera Expedition

El Plomo & Leonera Expedition is the perfect way to be prepared for higher summits like Ojos del Salado, Aconcagua, or Marmolejo. Making this climb will improve your strength and your acclimatization capabilities, making this a cornerstone for your next objective. We’ll be using mules during the approximation days so we save energy and avoid over demanding our organism. And you’ll have 2 days off in Santiago after climbing El Plomo in order to rest and become optimal for the next target.

Expedition mountaineering requires a bit of physical and mental preparation. It’s a circuit, which left us conquer the highest peak that can be seen from Santiago, the summit has a privileged view of the rest of the massifs highest in the Cordillera de los Andes, like the famous Mt. Aconcagua. The expedition begins with abandoning Santiago towards the Center of the ski La Parva 3.470 meters, where we start our trek.

You need to considerate an extra day because we need to meeting you the day before the trip begins, to check your equipment and answer the last question you can get

Includes & Not Includes

Our mountain expeditions include the following services:

  • Mountain guide (Spanish / English )
  • Mules to carried the common and personal gear
  • Private transportation to climbing areas (4WD or Mini Van)
  • Mountain tents (each one is for 2 persons)
  • Dinner tent (with table and chairs)
  • Cooking kit

Additional information:

  • 1 guide every 3 climbers
  • Satellite phone (fees by minute usage / U$ 6 p/m )

  • Weather can get as low as -20ºC (-4ºF) in the area

High Mountain Expedition is NOT responsible for:

  • Personal services (laundry, snacks, beverages, tips, etc.)
  • Personal mountain equipment
  • Expenses in case of rescue or early departure from the expedition.
  • Delays caused by your flight or any transportation issue which you are responsible for.
  • Weather changes which may affect the expedition.

Clothing and proper equipment

We strongly recommend to all the expedition members to have the mountain equipment described below.

Upper body parts

  • Sun hat
  • Wool hat
  • Balaclava / ski mask
  • 2 long sleeve polypropylene shirts (or similar)
  • 1 fleece windstopper (or similar)
  • 1 waterproof jacket (Gore Tex, Triple Point, or similar)
  • Down feather parka with hood
  • Polypropylene gloves
  • Waterproof gloves
  • Down feather mittens (Tº -20 or lower)

Down body parts

  • 2 polypropylene long underwear (or similar)
  • 1 trekking pants
  • 1 windproof pants (Gore Tex, Triple Point, or similar)
  • 2 or 3 pairs thin socks (Liners)
  • 2 or 3 pairs of thermal socks
  • Gaiters
  • Trekking boots (approach)
  • Mountain boots (double boots)

Personal equipment

  • Ice axe (70 cm or more)
  • Crampons
  • Trekking stick (telescopic)
