The highest peak that can be seen from Santiago
El Plomo & Leonera expedition is the perfect way to be prepared for higher summits like Ojos del Salado, Aconcagua, or Marmolejo. Making this climb will improve your strength and your acclimatization capabilities, making this a cornerstone for your next objective. We’ll be using mules during the approximation days so we save energy and avoid over demanding our organism. And you’ll have 2 days off in Santiago after climbing El Plomo in order to rest and become optimal for the next target. Expedition mountaineering requires a bit of physical and mental preparation. It’s a circuit, which left us conquer the highest peak that can be seen from Santiago, the summit has a privileged view of the rest of the massifs highest in the Cordillera de los Andes, like the famous Mt. Aconcagua. The expedition begins with abandoning Santiago towards the Center of the ski La Parva 3.470 meters, where we start our trek.

Why should you perform a 5-days training climbing El Plomo?
You need to considerate an extra day because we need to meeting you the day before the trip begins, to check your equipment and answer the last question you can get
We set out towards Piedra Numerada to set up our first camp. This place is perfect to start our expedition because it has the ideal altitude for starting the acclimatization process.
On this day we’ll set up the second camp around the 3,900 meters in order to keep on with our acclimatization process, which is crucial to our objective.
We’ll do a light climb to keep with our acclimatization process in order to get our bodies accustomed to this high altitude desert environment. This trekking is to be done around the Cancha de Carrera area and climb the Mt Leonera 4954m.
Leaving our camp very early in the morning, we’ll take the normal route up El Plomo, following the south-west ridge. We’ll cross an icefield to reach the summit ridge. From the summit we’ll have outstanding views of the highest peaks in the central Andes. We’ll return to base camp for the night.
From base camp, we’ll head right back to Santiago.
