In the Bolivian highlands are raised two of the most impressive volcanoes in South America, Sajama and Parinacota. Our 14-day expedition offers you the opportunity to explore these majestic peaks, immersing yourself in a journey full of adventure, challenge and unparalleled natural beauty.
Sajama, at 6,542 meters high, is the highest peak in Bolivia and an essential destination for mountaineering lovers. Located in the Sajama National Park, this dormant volcano is known for its imposing glaciers, desert landscapes and rich biodiversity.
Sajama National Park is a treasure of biodiversity and culture. In its surroundings, you will find natural hot springs, geysers and a rich fauna that includes vicuñas, llamas and Andean flamingos. Additionally, numerous archaeological sites and indigenous villages that have kept their traditions alive for centuries are featured in the area. This combination of nature and culture makes the Sajama expedition an enriching experience in every sense. During the expedition, you will have the opportunity to interact with local Aymara communities, learning about their traditions and way of life.
On the other hand, with its 6,342 meters, the Parinacota Volcano is part of the Payachatas (the twins) along with the Pomerape Volcano. Its perfectly symmetrical cone is one of the most photographed in the Andes. The ascent of Parinacota is a less technical but equally rewarding adventure, offering impressive views of the lakes and salt flats that surround the region.
Parinacota is located in the Lauca National Park, a biosphere reserve recognized by UNESCO. This park is home to a stunning diversity of flora and fauna, including one of the highest lakes in the world, the famous Chungará Lake. Climbing Parinacota is not only a physical challenge, but also an opportunity to immerse yourself in a unique and protected ecosystem.
In Arica our expedition begins and ends. This is a charming coastal town known for its pleasant climate and beaches. From here, you will be transported to the heights of the Andes, experiencing a drastic change in landscape and climate. This journey from sea level to the high peaks will allow you gradual acclimatization, fundamental for success on the summits.
